Invitation to the symposium organized by Øresund University, Copenhagen

Cross-Border University Regions

October 24th 2000 in Copenhagen

In the last decades collaboration between neighbouring universities in different countries has become more frequent. Øresund University, an organisation for cooperation between eleven Danish and Swedish universities in Roskilde, Copenhagen, Malmö and Lund, now connected by the Øresund Bridge, is one example of this. Many more are to be found all across Europe and elsewhere.

The symposium, organized by Øresund University, will discuss the importance that the cross-border universities may have for regional development and integration. The symposium will also discuss cross-border university experiences in different regions of Europe.

Among the speakers are professor Gerhard O. Braun, from the Institute for Geographic Science at Die Freie Universität Berlin. He will speak about inter and intra university cooperation and competition within the Berlin region. John Goddard, professor of Regional Development Studies at University of Newcastle upon Tyne, will speak about aspects of the contribution of higher education to economic development.

You and your colleagues are very welcome to the symposium. We will get back to you in early September with the full programme, but if you want to participate, please reserve October 24th for a trip to Copenhagen and the new Øresund Region. If you are interested in giving a paper, please contact us before August 10th.
